SBC Roams Even Further With WiFi

While it already seemed like SBC had surpassed T-Mobile as the US’s major provider of hotspot access with their super cheap access for SBC phone/DSL customers, it looks like they’re going even futher. They already had a number of hotspots on their own, as well as all of Wayport’s hotspots. Now they’re announcing roaming deals with Boingo and Airpath as well, making their offering even more appealing. By bundling it in with other services, making it super cheap, and creating as wide a WiFi footprint as possible, it appears that SBC is doing everything that T-Mobile had the opportunity to do years ago. Update: But wait… there’s less! Apparently the original story was not entirely accurate. Glenn Fleishman breaks down the real deal in all its confusing glory. It appears these new “roaming” locations aren’t included in the cheap deal. You have to pay another $20/month to get access to those. In other words, take back about half of the good stuff I said about SBC at the beginning of this piece.
