Rural Carriers Say No One Wants Wireline To Wireless Portability

While the big news in local number portability came when the 100 largest US municipalities had to offer portability, last May rural operators had to offer the feature as well -- and many complained loudly about it. One of the issues was the need to support wireline-to-wireless portability. Now they're complaining again, pointing to a study showing that very few rural users are switching. Of course, there are a variety of reasons why this may be so, starting with the fact that many rural customers probably don't know they can do this. Considering that the average rural customer isn't as likely to be an early adopter or someone who keeps up on the latest tech news, they may not realize they even have the option. However, that doesn't mean the option shouldn't be there.
