Liquid Lenses To Make Cameraphones Zoom

While camera phones have certainly been putting the hurt on some digital camera sales recently, they're obviously still inferior in many ways. One of the big ones is a lack of a real zoom -- but it looks like that may be changing too. Over at 3GSM (where Derek seems to have disappeared), a company has launched a liquid lens that can do optical zoom on mobile phones. We've heard of similar efforts before... but nothing ever seems to come to market. As for this offering, it still sounds like it's a bit too big to fit into a cameraphone, but clearly that's what they're aiming for. They hope to shrink it further in the coming year.
