No Surprise Here: WiFi Phones Not Selling Just Yet

Some people are just way too impatient. A report came out today suggesting that WiFi phone sales were a disappointment in 2004. Perhaps that's because there really weren't too many WiFi phones out there. Also, as we've pointed out repeatedly, the business case still isn't there for VoWiFi. In fact, from the sound of it, most of the sales so far have been Vocera-style hospital communications devices, rather than what most people think of as VoWiFi phones. There is room in the market for some aspect of VoWiFi, but the compelling reasons for the average person are still a long way off.
