Hua Who? Huawei, Of Course

Knock, Knock. Hua's there? Huawei. The Chinese infrastructure vendor made significant progress this week in getting their lower-priced equipment installed in Western networks. Granted, they weren't installed in the most famous carrier networks, but the first reference customers in the West will be bellwethers for Huawei's prospects in developed countries. NTCH, which operates the Clear Talk brand, installed a Huawei CDMA 1x system covering 358,000 POPs in California, and Dutch mobile operator Telfort contracted with Huawei to build a national W-CDMA network in Holland. There's a strong attraction to the low-cost product out of China, and if it performs as well as Western counterparts, we're going to see a big shakeup in the infrastructure market.
