T-Mobile Finally Announces Ringback Tones
While Verizon stole their thunder a few weeks ago, T-Mobile has been quietly testing ringback tones in a few markets since about a month ago. Now they've announced the official launch of the service. From the article, it sounds like they might be offering it at $2/song -- which still seems pricey. However, there's no mention of a monthly fee to offer ringbacks, which (if true) would be smart. This is a new service, that may seem confusing to many, and putting a monthly fee hurdle in front of it may keep users away. Either way, those who believe ringbacks will be a sustainable business are asking for trouble. Ringback tones are a fashion statement, and as I've said before, fashion statements go out of fashion.
