Will Europe Stomp Out UWB?

For all the problems that various camps have had coming to an agreement over a single UWB standard, Guy Kewney is now suggesting it may not matter at all, as European regulators may be set to sabotage any attempt at UWB. The details don't matter all that much, other than to say that some Europeans apparently hold a grudge over an earlier standards battle, and will use that to effectively torpedo any attempt at a worldwide UWB standard. Notice how little of the standards setting process these days actually involves making standards? Instead, it's all about political grudges, personalities and questions about who gets to own the patents.
