Hacker Contest To Re-Enable Bluetooth

There have been a lot of talk lately about Verizon Wireless' bizarre decision to cripple Bluetooth on the Motorola v710, claiming that it was for "security reasons" when everyone knew the truth was more about forcing people to send photos over the air, rather than be able to transfer them directly to computers. However, when being told by a big company that they can't do what they obviously should be able to do, smart programmers spring into action. There's now a contest for the first programmer who can figure out how to enable OBEX and OPP features on the handset. If Verizon Wireless were smart, they would win this contest be changing their mind and de-crippling Bluetooth. How many times does it need to be said that closing your customers off from what they want to do, just for the sake of your business model, is always going to come back to bite you.
