Clicking Camera Phones Go Clickless
For the three or four of you who didn’t see this one coming, Alan Reiter points to a story in Korea, where camera phones are supposed to make a fake “clicking” noise to alert people that a photo is being taken. Of course, what quickly happened is that software hacks have appeared that remove the clicking noise. When this rule was first put in place last year, we predicted that it would be laughed at in the future (kind of like early automobile laws that required a person walking in front of the car waving red flags). Is it really any surprise that people have figured out a way to get rid of the completely unnecessary noise? Eventually, people will learn and realize that mobile phones have cameras, and they’ll get used to it. All these overreactions will eventually fade away.
