The Worst US Cellphone Coverage Is In The Northeast

Probably no surprise to New Englanders, but a new JD Power report on cellular connection quality identified the US Northeast as the worst US region for mobile network service quality. The survey considered factors such as: static, interference, ability to connect, voice distortion, echoes, immediacy of voice mail notification, and speed of text message delivery. My initial guess is that this is generally related to higher population density, which puts increased demands on mobile phone networks. The survey then points out that different carriers are the quality leader depending on the region of the country. In the West, Sprint PCS is tops, while T-Mobile leads the South. Nextel leads the North Central, and Verizon Wireless is tops in the troubled Northeast.
