Verizon Wireless Sued Text Spammer?
Brian McWilliams, who once made up a story to teach journalists a lesson, but generally has a history of strong investigative journalism, has got his latest scoop that Verizon Wireless has filed a lawsuit against a bunch of text spammers. Verizon Wireless is apparently filing the case under a variety of telecom and computer fraud laws, and hoping that the courts will find the text messages qualify. One defendant is named, while fifty others are John Does. The one named defendant works for a well known spamming operation. McWilliams' report does not indicate (a) how he discovered this info or (b) why Verizon Wireless would keep this information secret. It would be nice if there were some confirmation on the story from another source.
