WiFi Substitution For GPS

Wi-Fi Networking News has an interesting interview with the president of Quarterscope, the company that is trying to create a GPS-like network of information using WiFi access point info. The idea is that they're building a huge database of WiFi access points, including their location, and can then determine the location of someone based on what access points they can access. It's a neat idea and lots of people have been talking about it over the last month or so. I still wonder how effective it can be longterm - especially as other location based systems improve. It can certainly fill in the holes for the time being, but it seems to have limited usefulness.
