Should China Sit On The 3G Sidelines?

We've covered the ups and downs of China's "homegrown" 3G standard, TD-SCDMA over the past few years. While it was a hot topic for a while, it played second fiddle to the recent trade battle over China's WiFi encryption standard, WAPI. However, part of the agreement also said that China would let the wireless carriers there make their own decisions on what 3G technology to adopt. While some still fear that China could push through TD-SCDMA, with the big carriers already testing other solutions, it may be quite difficult. Still, this article from TheFeature suggests that China might be better off waiting for a while to see how the whole 3G world shakes out before making any bets. Of course, that's exactly what we reported China planned to do.
