Bye Bye Toshiba WiFi
Glenn Fleishman does an excellent job pointing out what's really going on with the announcement that Cometa and Toshiba are forming a "strategic alliance" for their hotspots. The two companies lost out on the bid for McDonald's WiFi, and both need to rethink their strategies. It was never clear what Toshiba was doing in the space, and this is part of their way to bow out (somewhat) gracefully without admitting defeat. Cometa, though, still suffers from the massive amount of hype (but questionable business plan) they saddled themselves with at launch. It's unlikely this deal will do much to change that at all.
