Disney To Offer 3D Wireless Games

At the CTIA show today, I chatted with my ex-colleague and friend from Disney, Etesh Mangray. Etesh does content distribution business for Disney in North America, and when I worked with him in the days of WAP, there was almost no revenue to be made in selling wireless content. Well, judging from the smile on his face, things have changed. Etesh says that he's been very happy with the growing success of the Disney Mobile content, and that revenues are coming in from the national carriers for products such as ringtones, screensavers, and games. Most popular, says Etesh, is their Finding Nemo game. What's in the future for Disney in wireless? Well, some readers may know of some poorly kept secret projects which could make a big impact, but yesterday at the show, Etesh's boss EVP Larry Shapiro announced that Disney would begin to offer 3D graphic games with the first being Tron 2.0 3D for mobile, which is based on the Disney PC game from the Interactive division. 3D imaging is a big theme here at the CTIA show, with Qualcomm also announcing a deep partnership with graphics card powerhouse ATI Technologies for the co-development of 3D capabilities into the Qualcomm CDMA chipset.
