Verizon Wireless To Work With Korea's SK Telecom

I'm reporting today from the CTIA show in Atlanta, where Verizon Wireless announced a cooperation agreement with SK Telecom of Korea on 3G service development. I'm personally pleased with this announcement, because as some readers may know, I consulted with SK Telecom for over two years, and initialized the discussions which brought about the relationship. The benefits to Verizon are the ability to learn some lessons from the Korean market which remains a good deal ahead of the US. SKT launched their nationwide EV-DO service in January of 2002, while Verizon just re-announced their nationwide EV-DO today. The benefits to SKT are the ability to work with a carrier with significant scale and market clout, and hopefully cooperation will produce cost economies and ongoing synergies for both companies.
