Madrid Mobile Phone Network Can't Handle The Strain

A bit of a hectic morning around here upon realizing that my parents happen to be in Madrid right now - site of yet another unfortunate bombing attack. They're okay, but, as you can imagine a lot of people are calling Madrid right now, and, like during many other emergency incidents, the mobile phone network went down. Telefónica Móviles is actually urging people to send text messages instead of calling - but it has to be human nature to call, if possible. Makes you wonder if there's a better way to handle sudden surges of voice traffic.
