Yet Another Year Of 3G
It seems that every year is the "year of 3G". People have been expecting 3G networks to catch on every year for the past three or four years, so some are wondering why this year (once again, predicted to be the year of 3G) is any different. As with so much in the wireless world, it's an issue of overhyping and under-delivering from companies involved. It's a natural tendency at the individual company level, but it continually does damage to the industry as a whole. Perhaps, like other wireless technologies (WAP, Bluetooth), we need more analysts to declare 3G dead and buried - and then we'll see the real 3G acceptance begin.
