Figuring Out A Way To Kill Stolen Mobile Phones

We've written before about various efforts to cut down on the usefulness of stolen mobile phones. There have been attempts to make mobile phones not work - but those restrictions were easily hacked around (especially if the phone was sent out of the country). Now, the GSM Association is working on a better security system that will allow carriers to permanently shut down mobile phones even if they've been moved out of the country. Obviously, they're hoping that by making stolen mobile phones less useful, there will be less incentive to steal them. Found over at textually.org.
