Carriers Targeting The Kids

No surprise here, of course, but a new study is suggesting that carriers will increasingly be targeting the "youth" market, as they're more likely to adopt new wireless data services. The article mentions Boost Mobile (ignoring the fact that it's a part of Nextel), saying that it may have an advantage over its competitors in being entirely focused on the youth market. We've made a similar point in the past, but it will be interesting to see how other carriers respond. The article also seems to ignore the fact that Sprint PCS already is using a similar strategy in doing an MVNO deal with Virgin Mobile US. That said, though, it turns out that Verizon Wireless still seems to have (by far) the largest share of the market. Of course, they are the largest US carrier already, so that has to be taken into account. At the same time, though, they have done an excellent job from early on promoting their wireless data services to the youth market.
