Kenyan Mobile Phone Anti-Theft Tech Not So Useful

The problem is that in order to disable the service, you have to know the serial number of your phone - and most people aren't interested in the serial number of their phone until, well, after it's been stolen. The article also points out one potential downside to this anti-theft mechanism. If you can figure out the serial number of someone's phone, you can get the phone company to stop it from working.
