Testing The Safety Of Mobile Phones At The Pump
There's been quite a bit of confusion lately over whether or not mobile phones are safe at the gas station pump. While many gas stations now have signs asking you not to use your phones by the pump, many of those warnings are based on fairly circumstantial evidence about the potential danger. Now a jokey TV show in the UK decided to test out the issue by throwing a bunch of mobile phones into a car full of gas and gas fumes and then calling the phones. End result? No explosion. Of course, I would have been more impressed if they'd actually run these tests at gas stations, but I imagine that it would (a) be more difficult to find volunteers to be involved in that segment and (b) could lead to some angry conversations from gas station owners and other customers.
