Does Mobile Media Change The Way We Communicate
Douglas Rushkoff's latest article at The Feature is wondering if mobile media brings about an entirely new way of communicating. He's basing the idea on the works of Walter Ong, who created a model of communications that focuses on whether the communication is literate or oral. Rushkoff recaps the basics behind Ong's Orality, Literacy, and Secondary Orality stages, and suggests that mobile communications lets us go beyond Secondary Orality, to a "virtual primary orality" stage.
