No Surprise - WLNP Date Will Stand

Well, after an exhaustive year of saber rattling and chest thumping, the awaited/feared WLNP regulations will take effect on Nov. 24. The CTIA has announced that it will stop resisting, and make the best of LNP, (which includes grabbing some landline customers). In May, we predicted that the deadline would stick, but carriers would not be ready and fines would be imposed. Our opinion was that it would be 2004 before subscribers could change carriers in any reasonable fashion. In most cases, we still stand by that opinion, and would recommend to our readers that they not be the first to "run the gauntlet" of glitches and bad customer service that will probably await those who try to port their number on Nov. 25.
