More LNP FUD
The folks arguing against local number portability are pulling out all the stops lately. Derek already mentioned some of the shenanigans, but take a look at the following article which obviously was planted by an anti-number portability carrier. We've already heard how the customer experience won't be very good, and how consumers are going to be disappointed, but now, they've convinced the press to say that local number portability is bad for the environment. They even said this with a straight face. Here's the logic: local number portability will convince plenty of people to switch carriers. Since phones are usually tied to the carrier, everyone who switches will suddenly need a new phone - and all those old phones will get dumped into the junk yard where they'll screw up the whole environment. Next thing you know we'll hear how Local Number Portability is also going to convince our children to do drugs and have unprotected sex.
