Toshiba Launching WiFi Phone/PDA Combo
There have been plenty of announcements about WiFi VoIP phones recently, but Toshiba's latest announcement to create a WiFi-PDA-VoIP-Phone package suggests where we're headed with some of these things. As everything becomes internet connected, and the "smarts" move to the ends of the network, it becomes less necessary to have a specialized device at the end. Instead, you can have a single device that can be used for many different purposes. It's just the natural evolution of these things. The big question, though, is whether or not that's what customers will want. While it sounds nice to have everything in one simple package, the problem with many such offerings so far is that they do a little bit of everything - but they don't do anything well.
