Sprint To Launch PWLAN This Month...Cometa

Sprint PCS announced they will offer their public WiFi Access Service later this month using a network of Hotspot middlemen including Wayport, Airpath, and Cometa. Earlier today Cometa announced they would build out 250 hotspots in the Seattle area (not a very high percentage of their stated goal of 20k) which can be accessed through Sprint. Sprint PCS will offer software that allows customers to switch (roam) between WiFi and 1xRTT wide-area networks. Sprint PCS is sticking to its goal of offering 2,100 hotspots, which is a refreshing change from the seemingly ubiquitous announcement of 25,000. Sprint PCS stands a good chance of reaching the stated goal through the strategy of building and partnering.
