Intel Admits To Overhyping WiFi

While some are saying that slower than wished for adoption on WiFi is due to a lack of understanding of its benefits, that's certainly not due to any lack of publicity effort from folks like Intel. While Intel's marketing team keeps trying to convince us that they invented WiFi, and that all WiFi really has something to do with their Centrino chip, Paul Otellini has now admitted that Intel might (maybe, possibly) be guilty of overhyping the technology. Does this mean he regrets the decision to build Centrino chairs? I have no problem with companies talking up the benefits of WiFi (if they're being honest about them - which not everyone is). However, I think Intel has done both good and bad with their campaign. Certainly, they're increasing interest in wireless technologies - but the focus on the Centrino brand has been confusing the message for many people.
