Ultra-Wideband Interference Claims Overblown?

In DC today, Edmond Thomas, chief of the FCC's Office of Engineering and Technology demonstrated how UWB promulgated incredibly low interference on other radio systems by using a handheld GPS directly in the path of a UWB ground-penetrating radar transmitter. Thomas then put the GPS near a poorly designed TV receiver and the TV caused the GPS to lose signal. High-stakes shenanigans, or proof that interference claims are FUD? I'm leaning toward the latter, especially in cases of low-power UWB such as the FCC is permitting today.
