Wireless For Homeland Security

Some wireless technology and service providers are filling the need for a robust and ad-hoc communications infrastructure during times of National crisis, emergency, and disaster. At these times, the existing phone networks are often disrupted and overcrowded, but ad-hoc wireless and satellite systems can provide relief. Flarion, has partnered with Northrop-Grumman to contract with the government for installing fast ad-hoc data networks in emergency zones, while Globalstar, the satellite phone company, has already contracted with govt agencies because their service will most likely be unaffected by terrestrial disasters. This is a great use of both technologies, and if companies can make a profit while providing safety and rescue to citizens, then everyone wins.
