Singapore Launches Island-Wide Wireless Roaming Trial
While not quite as comprehensive as the wireless island nation of Niue, Singapore is now starting trials of an island-wide WiFi roaming system. It's not universal coverage, but the various WISPs around the island are letting users roam across each others hotspots free of charge during the trial. Hopefully more and more WISPs will realize the value of either roaming agreements or partnering with aggregators in some manner to make coverage more widespread. Better yet, of course, would be for WISPs to realize that the toll-booth method of providing WiFi may have trouble long-term, and focusing on other business models instead.
