The First Annual Wi-fi Shootout
This is great. Over at the hacker convention Defcon, they're going to have a WiFi distance shootout, trying to get people to show just how far they can send a WiFi signal. There are six different categories that you can enter in, covering out of the box solutions, homemade solutions, and "enhanced" solutions. Sounds like fun. Of course, in my experience WiFi distances will often vary over time depending on a variety of other factors, so I wonder how the judging will work to hold these things constant.
