Howard Dean, The Texting Candidate

I'll admit that I haven't yet had a chance to look too deeply into any of the new Presidential candidates' politics, but the clear leader in adopting new technology has been Howard Dean. There have been stories about how he's been blogging and using sites like Meetup to build grassroots interest. Now, we can add wireless text messaging to his list of Presidential candidate technology firsts. The Dean campaign is apparently working with UPOC to create text messaging groups to promote the campaign. It's also interesting to see that this isn't typical "broadcast" campaigning, but rather encouraging Dean supporters to use text messaging to communicate with each other and spread the word about his campaign. Certainly sounds interesting, though, I wonder at what point some less-than-clued-in people might take this as an excuse to spam political text messages to people.
