Plan To Clear The Air For Police Radios Hits Snag

In yet another spectrum battle, there has been some debate over whether or not the FCC should hand over some spectrum to Nextel in exchange for some spectrum they already own which every once in a while causes interference with certain police and fire emergency radio systems. Those opposed to the plan are upset that Nextel would be getting prime spectrum that others feel the FCC should be auctioning off. Now, however, Motorola has said they've come up with a filter for the emergency radio systems that would stop the interference from Nextel. A perfect solution? Not according to the folks on the police and fire communications side of the debate. They don't see why they should be the ones forced to upgrade their systems - especially since it's not clear who would be footing the bill for such upgrades.
