Is E911 Going To Trump LNP
Earlier today Mike posted that a court rejected the CTIA claim that LNP was unneccessary. Now, in a separate action, House Telecommunications Subcommittee Chairman Fred Upton, R-Mich is arguing that asking carriers to do E911 and LNP at the same time is onerous, and that E911 will suffer. He argues that the safety advantages offered by working E911 trump the consumer benefit of LNP, so LNP should be delayed. Dulcet sounds, no doubt for the carriers, and I agree in principle that the current demands on the carriers are onerous. However, I doubt there will be significant change. I expect LNP to be required this November as expected, and carriers will be late, and will be fined.
