Cisco Hijacking WiFi?
Not really sure what to make of this story, since it's based entirely on the comments on one anonymous executive. However, the claim is that Cisco is forcing its wireless networking standards, CCX, on anyone who makes WiFi chips. The suggestion in the article is that this is going to tie all WiFi products to a Cisco-based infrastructure. From the description it sounds like a typical "embrace and extend" type of strategy by Cisco. Adopt the basic technology, and then add on your own extensions that tie people to your solutions. As I said, this story would be a lot more convincing if it wasn't just from one anonymous source, but it should be worth following to see if it becomes a bigger story.
