VoIP From Palm
The Palm Tungsten C, a device without a cellular phone built in but with a WiFi radio, shipped with a headphone jack. Wonder what that headphone was for? Wonder no more. Palm has announced a partnership with VLI for VoIP technology that will turn the Tungsten C into a phone when connected to a WiFi network. At $500, this device is still too expensive to pose a mass-market threat to wireless carriers, but prices will eventually fall. We discussed VoIP over WiFi on May 8, with the message "Carriers beware".
