Hutchison 3G Shuffles Management
It's no secret that Hutchison Whampoa's 3G efforts in Britain have fallen short of the mark. Last month, commercial director Keith Bradley got a one-way plane ticket back to Hong Kong (the company's HQ) in a move the company said was unrelated to market performance (blimey!). Now, another shakeup has occurred in the UK division of Hutch, as day-to-day management of the bits'n'pieces is being transferred from Colin Tucker to Edward Brewster. Brewster has been co-CEO of the Italian 3G venture, which has signed up 50,000 subs to the UK venture's 10,000. A Hutch spokesman said that it is not a management shakeup, but rather just a transition from a development to a operational phase. Bullocks! If you've got 10k subs, mate, you're still in a development phase. The spokesman has all the credibility of Tinky Winky... nah, less.
