Telefonica Moviles, Telecom Italia Mobile And T-Mobile Unveil Alliance
In an effort to combat Vodafone's growing dominance, three major regional wireless carriers, Telefonica Moviles (Spain), Telecom Italia Mobile (Italy) and T-Mobile (Germany) have announced an alliance to share networks and jointly develop new services. These days, it seems that's what wireless carriers have to do to compete. The nature of the business seems to be one where it makes a lot of sense to have very close alliances with other carriers - or to start merging completely. It will be interesting to see if the European carriers start to follow the (expected) route of the American carriers into major mergers and acquisitions.
