The Second Coming Of Fixed Wireless

With many of the previously overhyped and then failed attempts at offering fixed wireless broadband serive it's easy to overlook the new services these days in the fixed wireless space. However, Telephony Online, has an article pointing out that fixed wireless is making a comeback. Much of the article focuses on three regional California fixed-wireless ISPs that have teamed up to offer service across all of their networks, to cover 60% of the state. While I like the idea of fixed wireless, I still remember all the failures, both from a technology and business perspective. I'm willing to believe that the technology is now much better, but I'm not yet convinceed on the business case (though, I can be) in many areas. Certainly, some regional WISPs have shown it's workable, but it will be interesting to see if this "consortium" of WISPs leads to broader appeal beyond the local provider.
