It seems a day doesn't go by when we don't hear of a company or a group of company with extraordinarily ambitious goals for installing WiFi hotspots. The latest is a group of Asian telecom companies, including Korea Telecom (Korea), China Netcom (China), Maxis (Malaysia), StarHub (Singapore) and Telstra (Australia) who will team up to deploy 20,000 hotspots by the end of the year. The companies will all have a roaming agreement so anyone signed up for any individual company's service should be able to use any of the other hotspots as well. They say they already have 8,600 hotspots between the five companies, and will get to the 20,000 number by the end of the year (which sounds very ambitious).
