Nokia, Motorola and Qualcomm Q4 Results

The big news this week is fourth quarter results and 2003 forecasts. Motorola beat expectations thanks to strong sales of low-end handsets. They expect handset sales to increase 10 percent in 2003. Nokia's fourth quarter profits beat estimates, but handset sales were at the bottom end of forecasts due to tough competition from Motorola and Samsung in North America. Nokia didn't provide detailed forecasts for 2003 but expects its handset market share to rise. CDMA chip maker Qualcomm had a strong Q4 with $1.1 billion in revenues, up 27 percent from the previous quarter. More interesting than the revenue growth is the increasing importance of WCDMA to their bottom line. While they are aggressively push their own CDMA-2000 technology, Qualcomm is quietly raking in WCDMA license revenues as well.
