US GSM Market Doubles In Size

GSM is gaining momentum in the US thanks to AT&T Wireless and Cingular's adoption of the international wireless standard. T-Mobile/Voicestream has the largest GSM network, but with two additional carriers migrating to the standard the market is growing as it replaces AMPS and TDMA. The number of US GSM subscribers went from 12.3 million in 2001 to 24.3 million in 2002, while AMPS and TDMA subscribers fell over the same period. GSM still trails CDMA and TDMA but should eventually replace TDMA. Carrriers and consumers should benefit from GSM's growth due to the choice of equipment and services available for GSM.
