Microsoft-Powered CDMA Phone Gets Approval

HTC announced today that they've received FCC approval for a CDMA version of their Microsoft Pocket PC Phone Edition PDA. Currently AT&T Wireless, T-Mobile USA and O2 in the UK offer a GSM version of the device under different names. The CDMA version will allow Sprint and Verizon to join the game. HTC is a contract manufacturer that is making a name for itself with Microsoft's wireless strategy. The company gained Pocket PC experience by manufacturing HP's Ipaq PDAs. Microsoft hasn't had much luck getting handset makers to license their software so they got HTC to build devices and market them to carriers. Carriers like HTC because they aren't focused on getting their brand out. They let carriers brand the devices, something they've always wanted.
