Why US Kids Aren't Jumping On Wireless Messaging

An interesting article from Slate suggests some of the reasons why kids in the US have been much slower to jump on the wireless messaging bandwagon. The biggest reason is that most kids have their own computer and internet access at home. They sit around and instant message each other from home, so there's less of a need to do so via their mobile phone. On top of that, there's the public transportation issue. In Japan, especially, kids spend much more of their day on public transportation, which they waste away by text messaging on their mobile phones. In the US, kids are more likely to be in a car, perhaps with friends, and less likely to need to kill that time.
