Intel Wants Wireless Ecosystem - Any Network, Any Device
Intel talked this week about their research projects to develop a "wireless ecosystem" that would let any device connection to any wireless network - and to hand off the device from one network to another (whether cellular or WLAN) with no indication to the end-user. There have been other projects like this, but clearly Intel back such an endeavor is a good thing. They don't expect to have a complete solution (combining radios for all different kinds of wireless networks) for at least seven years, but smaller "pieces" of the solution should start appearing by 2004.
