802.11 Networking on the Verge of Mass Market Impact
Lots of Wi-Fi news today, I guess. The latest is a bit of overhyped predicting from the Wi-Fi Alliance chairman, saying that, in terms of industry size and brand name recognition, Wi-Fi will soon be as big as Budweiser. This, of course, means absolutely nothing, but it makes for a nice soundbite. The rest of the article, though, does have some good predictions about where Wi-Fi is going, as the adoption rate increases. There are still security issues to be dealt with, but the fact that once people start using Wi-Fi they tend to get addicted is a good sign for the industry. Trends in equipment pricing also show good things, as it's becoming easier and easier to become Wi-Fi enabled.
