Reminder: Webinar On Smart Uses Of 'Free' For Businesses

We talk about the importance of understanding "free" within the realm of economics and business models all the time here on Techdirt. One of the problems, however, is that time and time again people hear the "free" part, but don't think through the actual strategies of how to apply it properly. This sometimes leads to situations where they just randomly make some stuff free, and then complain that "free" doesn't work. Understanding how to use "free" properly means doing more than just "give it away and pray." So we're hosting a webinar, tomorrow, July 28th at 2pm ET/11am PT which will dive into the subject of how to use free intelligently as a part of your business model. You can register here (again, this may pop up a "preference" page before you can get to the actual signup page -- we've tried to get rid of it, but so far, no luck). Joining me for the webinar will be Simon Morris, VP of marketing and product for BitTorrent Inc., who will talk about various business models that use "free" as a component, highlighting examples of what works and what doesn't. Then we'll have Phil Libin, CEO of Evernote, who will share a detailed case study of how Evernote does "Freemium," and what lessons they've learned in implementing a Freemium type of solution to make money. After that we'll have some Q&A and discussion as well, so come ready with questions. The webinar itself is being sponsored by Verizon, and it should be a lot of fun. New Webinar: Using 'Free' As A Part Of Your Business

Time for another webinar! This coming Wednesday, July 28th at 11am PT/2pm ET we're going to be running a webinar, sponsored by Verizon, about using "free" as a part of your business -- a topic that we obviously discuss quite a bit around here. I'm going to kick off the webinar with a brief talk about the economics of "free" and how to use it proactively for a variety of businesses (not just "entertainment" or "content"), and then we'll have two guests talking about some real world examples. First up will be Simon Morris, VP of marketing and product for BitTorrent Inc., who will talk about various business models that use "free" as a component, highlighting examples of what works and what doesn't. Then we'll have Phil Libin, CEO of Evernote, who will share a detailed case study of how Evernote does "Freemium," and what lessons they've learned in implementing a Freemium type of solution to make money. I'll be moderating, and we'll have short presentations from Chris Peters of Intel, talking about matching data center productivity to business productivity, and from Michael Rowan of Viridity Software, discussing productivity measurement from an energy management perspective (an increasingly important part of the equation). Be Part Of A Webinar Discussion On Enterprise Knowledge Management

Sun and Intel are interested in holding a webinar around the topic of Enterprise Knowledge Management for their site, MidMarket Innovators. They are looking for experts to be featured in this online webinar, so this case is a little different in that sense.

We are looking for you to submit proposals that would describe a webinar topic that you would be willing to discuss. If your topic is chosen, then you will then need to be available to participate in the 1-hour online webinar, hosted by Techdirt's Mike Masnick. You can see the previous webinars here to get a sense of what has been done before.

The potential topics that they are interested in are:

What does “enterprise knowledge management” mean to you?
How is this strategy/approach evolving? 10 years ago? 10 years from now?
- How have advances in technology over the last 3-5 years made it easier for organizations to implement Knowledge Management?
How does technology supplement the business strategy? How does IT support/contribute? What is the role of technology?
How are the solutions that Sun & Intel are bringing to market contribute to “enterprise knowledge management”?
- New Sun Servers based on Xeon 5500? Performance, Energy Efficiency & Virtualization Capabilities. These new servers allow IT to replace 9 old single core x86 servers with one new Sun/Xeon 5500 server. IT can see a payback in less than one year.
- Software – How does software & software usage models factor into these solutions? For Sun Software – Sun & Intel have been working together to optimize Java, MySQL & Solaris for Intel processors.
What are the metrics and business benefits that organizations should expect from Knowledge Management?

My ISP, Digiweb, has just announced three Fibre plans, 70Mb down, 20Mb up. First two plans though have 70GB and 200GB caps respectively, which is ridiculous for such high speeds. For the high price of 80 euro/month, I can get unlimited bandwidth

Thing is, I've learned to be wary, so I click on Terms and Conditions, to see what their definition of unlimited is...only to be met by an error page saying my IP address had been blocked
