Is It Possible for iWon.com to Make Money?
from the gimmicks dept
Talk to just about anyone about iWon.com and they say it's a gimmick. In fact, it seems to anger a lot of people in the internet industry that such a company can "buy" their way into the portal space, by giving away money to users. I think anything's fair, but I agree that it's questionable as a value-adding business model. Now, some analysts are questioning whether or not iWon.com can generate enough revenue to stay in business (what a concept). If you do some back of the envelope calculations on their "marketing" expenses, you realize that they need to bring in quite a lot of revenue to make it work. Chances are they would need to prove their a credible competitor to Yahoo, which is unlikely.
