Techdirt Book Club Question Time: Consent Of The Networked, By Rebecca MacKinnon

from the ask-away dept

As promised earlier this month, we’re holding a “book club” discussion on Rebecca MacKinnon’s Consent of the Networked. The discussion page over at Step2 is the place for people to submit and vote on questions that we’ll use in the discussion itself. If you have questions, submit them there, and as people vote we’ll send the best questions to Rebecca, then have a wider discussion with everyone at the end of the month.

Also, I know there was some concern that people were unable to obtain a copy of the book. If you still want to participate, Rebecca recently did a great interview with Jerry Brito on his Surprisingly Free podcast. There she discusses many of the key themes in the book, which should give you a good starting point for questions to be asked.

Any good torrent links for the book? I’m sure the author would appreciate the irony of relying upon the hamfisted, centralized control of copyright to enforce her ideals of sharing on the network. She needs our consent to get paid.

I wouldn’t even bother looking, actually. See, when an artist takes the time to engage with his/her audience, I like to show my appreciation for that. It means a great deal to me to have those that create take the time to speak with their fans, and that’s worth something. Certainly it’s worth the price of the book, and likely more.

So, no, I don’t know of any torrents of the book. And even if I did, I’d say it’d be silly to post them here. Why? Because we’re not antagonistic pod people like you, and we appreciate when someone has embraced us as customers and potential customers.

Idiot.
